Did I Pass the NCLEX? How to Know Right Away in 2026

You walked out of the testing center, the screen went dark, and now you are refreshing your email every four minutes. Welcome to the worst wait in nursing. Here is how to get an early read on whether you passed, and how much to trust each method.

Option 1: Official Quick Results (the reliable one)

Pearson VUE offers Quick Results, unofficial results you can buy about 48 hours after your exam. It costs $7.95 and is available in most states (NCLEX). These match the eventual official result the vast majority of the time, so if you can wait two days, this is the sane option.

Your official result still comes from your board of nursing, usually within about six weeks, but Quick Results ends most of the suspense early.

Option 2: The Pearson VUE Trick (PVT)

The PVT is the unofficial method students have used for years. You try to re-register for the NCLEX in your Pearson VUE account after testing:

  • The "good pop-up": a message saying you cannot register because of a recent registration. Many read this as a likely pass.
  • Reaching the payment page: often read as a likely fail.

People usually try it about 2 to 4 hours after the exam. Here is the honest truth: the PVT is not official, Pearson VUE has never endorsed it, and there are documented false positives and false negatives. Treat it as a rumor, not a result.

Should you do the trick?

If it will spike your anxiety or you would spiral over a wrong signal, skip it and wait for Quick Results. If you know yourself and can hold it loosely, it is a free peek. Just do not make any life decisions based on a pop-up.

What the result does not decide

Whatever happens, one exam does not define your career. If you passed, congratulations, go celebrate. If you did not, you get a performance report, a 45-day reset, and a clear path back. We wrote the comeback plan in How Many Times Can You Take the NCLEX?

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take to get NCLEX results?
Official results come from your board of nursing, often within about six weeks. Pearson VUE Quick Results are available about 48 hours after your exam for $7.95 in most states.

Is the Pearson VUE Trick accurate?
It is unofficial and not guaranteed. There are documented false positives and false negatives. Quick Results at 48 hours is far more reliable.

When should I do the PVT?
